We choose a Hot Topics approach. Inherent with 'Hot' would/does go a measure of combativeness that is/should be allowed in it's voted format. I personally liked the other/previous lead-in, but am unsure where the OKY-DOKY to edit it down came from. After "we all are owners of RSF", we just gave away our votes as 'proxy' votes without our consent? IMO, YMMV.

Disagreement on some topics is to be expected here, just don't forget we're all friends.

there's nothing wrong with disagreeing (it's the chile pepper for my burritto)
What I always object to is the when it gets 1) Personal aanndd 2) off-topic

Peace

So the (money)guy who likes to accuse me of having a menstrual period is wondering why we can't all be nicer on the Hot Topic threads? That's pretty rich.

It's elementary Mrs. Watson
for every action , there IS a reaction: The only time I accuse you of anything is when YOU start something.

I always do my best to stay on topic aanndd respond to OP or related responses.
However as the case exists here, I am responding to YOU as much as I'd prefer to ignore you.
You see, That's my fault; I should just ignore you; but then again my pride does not let me..... so as before bring it on, and be prepared to be hear/read me call you what you are

Default MG, keeps deleting my posts... let's try this one.

Here's a different suggestion. Have a second 'OPEN' political discussion area. One that can be strictly censored for "comfy cozy" discourse.

Call it something like "Not even moderately tepid posting allowed" or something like that.

It would give those that are easily offended a place on the Site to feel engaged in the political process.

It would also give those same "weak constitutioned individuals" (not intended as derogatory) a place to go other than "serious subjects".

The fact that those who do not 'Have to' go to Hot Topics but still do...

And feel that their weaker constitutions should trump those looking for a Hot Topics arena...

And wish to force "niceness" on the world (in an area they don't 'Have to" go to) shows that they have a need to be involved on this site.

I say give them their "nice political arena" and maybe they'll stay out of hot topics.

Any word on the XCPUS' version of Political subjects forum area outside the 'Serious Stuff' sub forum?

If there was widespread interest in a "nice" political forum in addition to the nasty one, I guess we could consider it ... but it would need some active moderation by someone who is not also an active participant. My own feeling is that one Serious Stuff board is bad enough without adding a second one.
